Geothermal Heat Pumps
Geothermal heat pumps use solar heat that
has been stored in the ground just below the frost line.
Alternatively, it uses the solar heat stored in a body of water. It
is used to heat or cool buildings. During the cooler months, these
units will draw the heat to warm up the buildings and during the
warmer months, it will use the cooler ground as a form of heat sink
to cool off the buildings.
Geothermal heat pumps are also used to heat
water, radiant floor heating and they are used to melt snow. Other
characteristics of these types of pumps are a long shallow system
that is lain in the ground. They may also have vertical pipes or
wells that run deep into the ground or they may have systems that
pump water for circulation.
In Canada, geothermal heat pumps are used
all across the country and they have been used for many years as
well. It is estimated that there are over thirty-three thousand of
these particular units in operation in either residential or
commercial locations. It is also estimated that sales are
increasing at an average of thirteen percent per year.
When determining what type of geothermal heat
pumps are going to be installed, there are several factors at hand
that help in the decision. These factors include the location, the
soil type, the size of the building and the amount of property that
is available for use. An example of some of the locations that have
installed these type of pumps include schools, greenhouses, offices
and of course residential homes.
Geothermal heat pumps are the most advantageous
heating and cooling system currently available. They are clean,
economical and they are good for the environment. If you compare to
electrical heating, these units could save you more than sixty-six
percent of your annual energy costs.
